About

“It is the soul that sees; the outward eyes
Present the object, but the Mind descries.
We see nothing till we truly understand it”.

John Constable

I remember the experience of making each of the images presented here. Not just because of the beauty of the landscape, the miles travelled or the investment of hours spent waiting for the light. It’s because the memory of each successful image is, to borrow from Robert Adams, infused with an ‘emotional blessing’.

It is that which I think most landscape photographers wish to convey to the viewer; that which elevates the photograph from the poverty of the two dimensional image to something more transcendent, profound and revelatory. These images form part of the soul of the photographer and, via the imagination, it is hoped briefly touch that of the viewer.
